Canon EOS 1D-Mark IV

Canon has updated the firmware for its EOS-1D Mark IV and EOS 5D Mark II digital SLRs. Firmware versions 1.1.0 and 2.0.9 respectively both improve read/write speeds with UDMA 7-compatible CF cards, and also correct minor bugs and menu language errors. The firmware will be available for download from Canon’s regional websites.

EOS-1D Mark IV Changes

This firmware update (Version 1.1.0) incorporates the following improvements and fixes.

1. Improves the writing/reading speeds when using UDMA 7-compatible CF cards.
2. Fixes a phenomenon that occurs when using high-capacity (32 GB or greater) CF cards: If either a CF card with only a little available space remaining or the battery is removed and then reinserted into the camera, and then the user attempts to start shooting movies immediately, shooting may stop.
3. Corrects some mistakes in the menu screens displayed in Arabic and Portuguese.

EOS 5D Mark II Changes

This firmware update (Version 2.0.9) incorporates the following improvements and fixes.

1. Improves the writing/reading speeds when using UDMA 7-compatible CF cards.
2. Fixes a phenomenon that occurs when custom function C.Fn III-2 is set to [5: IS start] to assign IS start to the AF stop button on the lens: When used with lenses that do not have an AF stop button, the IS function will not work.
3. Corrects some mistakes in the menu screens displayed in Arabic, Portuguese, Spanish, and Thai.

Firmware updates will be available from the software download page of the Canon support area of each country’s web site.

Spanish Air Force F18 Hornet jets detail.

Within the last international air festival in Malaga (2010 edition) I had the opportunity to attend the open day where you could see the aircraft involved. Among them caught my attention a couple of Spanish Air Force McDonnell Douglas F18 Hornet.  This photo belongs to a series in which some details of these jet fighters are presented including some of their proud pilots.

The Royal Netherlands Air Force's F-16 demo team performance during last International Malaga Airshow

The Royal Netherlands Air Force’s F-16 demo team 2010-2011 is based at Leeuwarden Airbase.
The responsibility for providing the Air Force with the F-16 solo display shifts between Volkel and Leeuwarden Airbase every two years. However, last year an exception was made, due in part to the large success of Volkel’s demo team, to let them continue with an additional third year of touring. In early 2010, the Volkel team handed over their responsibility for showcasing the Royal Netherlands Air Force F-16 demo team to Leeuwarden Airbase. Even though there was an excellent handover of team responsibilities, the new Leeuwarden squad will have to continue with diligent work to match the success of their predecessors. We are sure that the 2010-2011 team will do their very best to match, and hopefully exceed, the public’s expectations!

The current team is comprised of personnel from the 323 and 322 Squadron, both of which are based at Leeuwarden Airbase. The team consists of one display pilot, two coaches, six technical specialists, and two advisors. Captain Tobias “Hitec” Schutte will be this year’s display pilot.

Near macro shot of a thorny cactus with beautiful colors grading from green to intense yellow.

There are catus with a huge variety of forms and sizes. In particular, this is a sphere-like cactus and with one meter of diameter. What I liked was the colorful that goes from green to an intense yellow in the center and that is entirely covered in thick thorns. With this image, I want to highlight the hardness and tangle that form the thorns as well as their colors.

The grey reef shark (Carcharhinus amblyrhynchos)

Glass scratches, low light, no tripod, children crossing in front of your lens, … well those are some difficulties associated to this capture, but at least, sometimes the best way to observe some kind of fishes is behind a glass !!!

A little girl with a gesture of sadness receives the reflection in her eyes of the curtain draws

Angry, this is how this little girl felt for a minute before I shot the photo. She broke to cry against the window and when she lifted her head, she was sad and aware that had behaved badly. I could see the curtain draws being reflected in her eyes with a shape and color featuring a somewhat retro style. It is a curious portrait that draws the attention of the viewer.
